EXPECTATIONS & ASSESSMENT

        I have never been assessed through a portfolio before, so I am looking forward to this experience. It will greatly support me in monitoring my progress throughout the course. Rather than relying solely on tests or assignments, I will be able to observe my learning development over the weeks.

        Writing a weekly journal seems manageable for me, as I am already familiar with the method, although I have not previously used it in either academic or personal contexts. I anticipate that it will be beneficial to revisit my reflections from earlier weeks, observe how my perspectives evolve, and identify areas where I have succeeded or still need improvement. This type of reflective practice should deepen my engagement with the course and enhance my understanding of its topics.

        I have always been fascinated by multilingualism and the processes involved in language learning, and this course immediately caught my attention as it offers a unique approach not currently available in my programme. Last year, I completed a postgraduate course entitled Languages in Contact, where we explored similar themes guided by students’ interests. At that time, our focus was on additional language teaching and acquisition, which proved to be incredibly enriching. I expect this course to complement and expand upon that foundation, offering new perspectives I intend to incorporate into my future Master's or Doctoral research.

        As someone who aspires to become both a teacher and a linguist, I believe reflection is fundamental. It promotes self-improvement and facilitates responsiveness to students’ needs. Through this course, I aim to develop a habit of critically evaluating my teaching practices, identifying effective strategies, recognizing areas for improvement, and continually striving for growth. In the long term, I believe this will contribute to my development as a more effective educator, better equipped to address challenges and provide meaningful learning experiences.
